Birthday - A Day to Celebrate

Everyday day of the year, somebody is celebrating a
birthday. It's like a miniature holiday for that person
alone. Who doesn't like being the birthday Queen or King
for the day?
Children love to celebrate their birthday. It means they've
taken one more step into becoming a "big kid". But I think
they enjoy the parties, games and cake that go along with
their birthday.
The thing that excites a child most about a birthday party
is the gifts. It is a tradition here and in most countries
to give gifts to the birthday boy or girl. Usually gift
giving becomes a competition. Who can buy the most
expensive gift. While the birthday child may reap the
benefits from this competition, the children who brought
less expensive gifts end up getting hurt. To prevent this,
the parents write on the invitation "gifts not needed." The
party then becomes more focused on the child rather than
the gifts.
Adults often they want to ignore their birthday because
they dread growing a year older. Secretly they still want
their birthday acknowledged. Who doesn't enjoy being the
honorary "person of the day."
Certain ages signify a greater birthday celebration. A
child's first birthday is cause for the parents to
celebrate. They share this special day with friends and
family.
The fifth birthday is the next big celebration. This is the
child's first "big" party and it is the beginning of their
school days.
Then comes the sixteenth birthday. The teenager is only two
more years away from being an "adult". Plus they can get a
drivers' licence. Now they are more independent and don't
need to be around their parents.
At the ripe age of eighteen, the child now becomes an
adult. Their birthday party usually lasts all night, now
that the child can stay out late. With an eighteenth
birthday comes along more responsibilities. They become
official adults when turning 21. This is the biggest
birthday bash of them all! Now the adult can buy alcohol
and get smashed with friends during their birthday
celebration.
In America, the birthday is typically celebrated with a
birthday cakes, singing happy birthday at a party or
restaurant and gifts. Other countries celebrate a birthday
with different traditions.
Your birthday is a special time. Celebrate it they way you
want. Take off of work and relax.
