Gifts for the Graduate

Each year, just as the spring flowers are in bloom, you
see families all over the country celebrating their child's
high school graduation. Many times a son or daughter is
off to college, or the military, while many may be entering
the workforce or getting ready for marriage. Shopping for
a gift for the graduate is never easy and you will see
parents scouring the malls for the appropriate gift to
celebrate this important step. If a child has no strong
interest or particular hobbies, the chore is even more
difficult. How about some innovative and popular ideas for
the perfect gift for the graduate in your family?
The old fashioned greenback will be first on the list if
you ask the graduate what he or she wants. That can also
be the easiest choice for the giver as well. Every graduate
likes that feel of cash in his hands so he can go and
spend it on exactly what he wants. Tall, short, fat, thin
boys, girls, blonds, brunettes or redheads: here's something
they all agree upon: I'll take cash. As they say, one size
fits all, and it never has to be returned, it matches
anything you wear.
But lets look at some non cash gifts.Today the iPod is very
popular among teens. Since most teens spend their time with
headphones attached to their heads, it's no wonder why.
It's the perfect gift for a musicaholic. The iPod is a tiny
computer that can download an entire CD in less than five
seconds. It stores about 5,000 songs in its small data bank
which may almost be enough for your music crazy grad to be
satisfied. A lot of the new models have a range of other
fun items that customers want along with their music.
A PDA is another mini-computer that grads may appreciate.
They do a lot more than just store and play music. This
hand held computer lets you store graphics, files, and
movies in addition to music, can supply wireless internet
access, wireless e-mail, voice recording, a digital camera,
a calculator, a phone book,a web browser and even more if
you choose the right model. One with all those features,
including Bluetooth compatibility can be expensive, but it
is a good value for the number of features it offers.
Digital cameras can also be make great gifts for the new
grads. Even if they have a camera already, they will
appreciate a new one for all the goodbye pictures they will
be taking. They will also want to share pictures of their
new surroundings with familiy and friends. The really great
thing about digital cameras is that they allow the grad to
email pictures using their PC. Parents know they probably
won't get pictures developed to show them the dorm or a
great game, but they will download these memories to the
computer.
A laptop is probably the wisest choice for a gift if your
grad is off to college. It is not only a useful item, but
also a sound investment. Your college bound grad is going
to need a computer for research, writing papers and doing
homework. This is al be more expensive choice than the
other items on the list, but hopefully, it will also help
to keep the student in touch with parents. It is easier to
keep in contact over the computer, and it may even prove
to save money, since email is a lot cheaper than the long
distance phone appeals to mom and dad for money.
Whatever you choose, your new grad is sure to appreciate
the time and thought that you've put into their selection.
Keep in mind that this is a special time of transition in
their lives, so it's OK to give them something a bit
extravagant without the fear of spoiling them. In other
words, air out that wallet, and get out there and shop!
